A generous Kerrville resident has offered their land as a base site for community services, where volunteers and community responders—including those assisting with ongoing search and rescue efforts—can receive care and support.
This is a long-term effort and will evolve over time. For now, we are focusing on first responders and community volunteers who are actively supporting the recovery process. We anticipate offering clinics for the broader community once search and rescue efforts are complete and essential needs are more fully met. We are also planning support clinics in communities beyond the Hill Country.
About the Clinics:
- Treatments will be provided in group “healing circles” in a large tent outside (mosquito-protected). We will use auricular acupuncture only for this round of clinics as we are including both acupuncturists and ADS practitioners on the team. We encourage providing ear seeds to all clients (after needling or in lieu of needles if that is their preference). The clinic will be “rolling,” meaning that clients will come in at different times for treatment.
- In addition to our acupuncture and trauma-informed healing services, local massage therapists and chiropractors are already on-site offering care.
- Clinics are free.
- The AWB team leader for both clinics is Connie Randolph.
- We hope to have at least 4-5 practitioners and 2 admin folks on each clinic day (more is fine).
- All clinic supplies and infrastructure items are supplied by AWB.
Important Volunteer Details:
- AWB teams include licensed and non-licensed volunteers. Only TX licensed LAc's, ADS's, MD's can needle (listed as "Practitioners" on the schedule sign up). We also invite non-licensed volunteers, especially students, to provide administrative support (greet clients, provide them with informed consent information, etc.). Students or retired practitioners can also do ear seeds after the acupuncture treatments and/or be "watchers" for the treatments to ensure patient safety. Please make sure to sign up on the schedule in the section that applies to you.
- All volunteers must have completed AWB training (We provide a free 6 PDA hour emergency online training so if you have not had AWB training, please contact me asap)
- All volunteers who are needling must have an active Texas Acupuncture or Acudetox license AND active malpractice coverage.
- All volunteers must have completed an AWB volunteer application.
- You will need to bring your own food and water for the day, as well as any personal care items.
- Dress code: Comfortable, modest clothing (no low cut shirts or short shorts please), close-toed shoes for safety. We will provide AWB T-shirts and aprons for carrying supplies.
- Please note: it will be hot, and all participants should come prepared for hot weather conditions.
Next Steps:
- Sign up for a clinic shift here! Make sure to include your name, email and phone number, and sign up in the section that applies to you (admin, practitioner, ear seeder).
- We will contact you by email and phone to confirm your participation and provide more details, including a location pin. You can NOT use GPS for directions due to road closures.
- We create group phone threads for our teams for texting so please be prepared for this.
Please let me know if you have any questions so far! Thank you so much for all you do and we look forward to working together to support folks in the Hill Country and beyond.
